All security systems send information via a phone line to a monitoring center for various alarm and trouble conditions. If your security system was installed and does not have either an alarm occurrence or trouble condition on a daily basis the monitoring station has no knowledge of whether your security system is functioning properly or not without the daily confidence test. Most companies that monitor systems from an out of town monitoring station do not provide a daily test signal. They opt instead for a by monthly or monthly signal instead. The reason companies operate in this fashion is that they use their own 1800 toll free line to transmit signals from your panel to their monitoring station. They keep their costs as low as possible by only sending alarm conditions. Because they are paying for the calls they must keep the signal traffic to a minimum to make a profit. The end result is, you are paying for a monitoring service that may not know whether your system is functioning properly or not for possibly a full month or more. Alliance monitors systems locally ( Ottawa and area) all of our panels send a daily confidence test at no extra cost. That is true 24 hour monitoring.
